7 Ways Power Pilates Helps Restaurant Workers

I’ve been working in restaurants for almost 25 years. As much as I tried to leave the industry to explore other career opportunities, I’ve always found myself coming back due to its flexible schedule, social aspects, and the fact that I'm paid after each shift, leaving me with ongoing cash.

There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for a pay week only to spend most of it and then relying on credit to get by until the next one.

Of course, if you are someone with financial literacy, then it’s something you wouldn’t worry about.

I’ll save that topic for another blog post, as finances do play a significant role in our health and wellness. For now, I want to share how Power Pilates is a fantastic exercise for alleviating tightness and soreness in our bodies after spending long hours on our feet.

Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that focuses on building core strength, improving posture, and increasing flexibility. For servers, chefs, bartenders, and anyone who spends long hours in the fast-paced restaurant world, Pilates offers precisely the support your body needs.

Why Power Pilates Should Be Your Go-To Workout

  1. Builds muscular endurance. Power Pilates’ mix of controlled movements and longer holds pushes your body to its limits. The result? Better muscular endurance.

  2. Improves posture. Power Pilates increases body awareness while giving your core a significant workout. Over time, this can lead to better alignment on and off the mat.

  3. Increases flexibility & mobility. Power Pilates combines stretches with complex movements, which can improve flexibility and range of motion.

  4. Reduces stress. Mindfulness and breath control are a huge part of Power Pilates. Practicing this mind-body focus regularly can help ease stress.

  5. Boosts digestion. Working your core activates your digestive system and stimulates peristalsis. This helps food move through your digestive tract, preventing constipation.

  6. Stimulates lymph flow. The rhythmic muscle contractions in Power Pilates function like a pump, stimulating your lymphatic system to move. And better lymph flow = better detox.

Working in the restaurant industry can be incredibly rewarding, but without proper care, the physical demands can quickly lead to injury. Incorporating Power Pilates into your weekly routine helps strengthen and protect your body, while also reducing stress, supporting healthy digestion (especially with all the standing and on-the-go eating), and improving muscle endurance to keep you energized through long shifts.
